Evaluation of a wraparound process for children exposed to family violence. Protecting Children 22(3&4):1–18 (Special Issue: “Exposure to Violence”). http://www.americanhumane.org.

While there are many programs addressing the problem of children who have been or are currently being exposed to violence, the authors say, there are not many tests being run to evaluate how effective they are. The authors did this with one such program, the Child and Family Interagency Resource, Support, and Training Program (Child FIRST) based in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Based on their analysis, they conclude that over time, there was a significant decrease in the following: the quantity of potentially traumatic occurrences a child experienced, including family/non-family violence events ; both posttraumatic stress-intrusive thoughts and posttraumatic stress-avoidance behaviors; and self-reported stress linked with the parenting role among caregivers. In addition, the authors conclude, there were favorable ratings of services by caregivers as well as high levels of service receipt.
